How To Pick An Exposure For Astrophotography?!

I’ve just added a new page to my website that is dedicated to helping you understand how to pick an exposure for astrophotography.

Whether you’re new to the hobby, getting a new camera, or are just curious. You can head over to my webpage on How To Pick An Exposure Time For Astrophotography. Within it you’ll find plenty of information and the physics of how a camera collects light. How our light pollution affects our camera sensors, and all the equations you’ll need to pick an exposure for astrophotography.

On that page you’ll find all the information on how to find out what C is? How to find the read noise of a camera, and how to calculate your light pollution rate.

What If You Don’t Like Maths?

I hear you. I don’t really get along with maths either. So on that same page at the bottom I’ve created how to pick an exposure for astrophotography calculator. In it, all you have to fill in is your Bortle rating, your read noise, focal ratio, what filters you’re using and how much noise you’re happy to live with. Again, if that seems unnatural to you, give my page a read. I spell it all out for you in there.

I had a lot of fun researching and getting in the weeds for this, and also had a tremendous amount of fun revising the coding needed to create the calculator.

So I really hope that page is useful for you, and remember if you have any questions feel free to reach out and I’ll do my best to answer.

Here’s the link for the How To Pick An Exposure Time For Astrophotography page.

Just a quick blog post for today to highlight this. Hope you have a great time!

Clear skies everyone. Keep looking up and keep those cameras clicking.
